Jeremy Phillips graduated with Honors from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Mr. Phillips attended the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Mr. Phillips worked as the City of Scottsdale's chief criminal appellate attorney for four years. During that time he conducted well over fifty jury trials and hundreds of appeals of both civil and criminal matters. Mr. Phillips was trained alongside police officers in conducting field sobriety tests and determining drug impairment via the "Drug Recognition Expert" program.
Jeremy Phillips joined Craig Penrod in 2000 and since then has litigated in excess of hundreds of jury trials and dozens of appeals. With Mr. Phillips' background in biology, he has received the same analytical and physical chemistry education as the prosecution's experts. Due to his education in chemistry and biology, Mr. Phillips could qualify as an expert criminalist if he was willing to work for a police laboratory. He has hands-on experience with head space gas chromatography and is often better versed than the state's experts in the internal workings of the instruments used to test blood and urine.
A regular speaker at conferences and seminars regarding technical aspects of trial, Mr. Phillips is often contacted by other defense counsel for advice and guidance regarding scientific issues pertaining to DUI cases involving blood, breath and urine. In 2007, Mr. Phillips co-authored the Arizona State Bar Practice Manual's chapter on lower court criminal appeals.
